Canadian Hardwoods

beautiful, durable and renewable

Design

A natural choice, Canadian hardwood is endlessly adaptable, appealing to both contemporary and traditional consumers at home and at work.

Durable and cost effective, hardwood with its abundant species and grades is a long time favourite for flooring, mill work, paneling, and furniture. Easily profiled, stained and finished, hardwood’s natural grain and colour improve with age bringing warmth and elegance to any interior.

Internationally recognized, Canadian hardwood is a versatile design solution – but it is much more. A key element in the emerging field of biophilic design, wood connects us to the natural world providing a greater sense of well-being and contributing to overall health.

Canadians spend most of their time indoors and separated from nature. More than ever, they are demanding a safe and healthy living space, where they can protect and raise their family.

A healthy choice

Naturally sustainable and non-toxic, wood is a safe green product that leaves us healthier, happier and more productive. Carbon neutral and biodegradable, it is good for us and good for the planet. These benefits extend from residential and corporate spaces to health care, education and community facilities.

Wood is a biophilic design material and evidence is beginning to show that that link with nature brings similar positive health outcomes, notably lower stress, a better sense of wellbeing and improved focus.

Naturally green

Almost too good to be true, Canadian hardwood is a long lasting, renewable, recyclable and biodegradable product that stores carbon and contributes to healthy ecosystems as it grows.

Half of hardwood’s weight is stored carbon and its production produces less carbon and pollutants than any of the competing materials. Manufactured with almost zero waste, Canadian hardwood has a compelling life cycle assessment. If you design with the planet in mind and consider the values of today’s consumer, wood is the natural choice when you need to meet demanding environmental standards.

Why Canada?

Canada is a leader in sustainable forestry and our stewardship has global impact.

Possessing only 9% of the world’s forests, Canada is home to 36% of certified forests globally. Over 90% of our forests are on pubic lands, and when harvested, they must be regenerated by law. To protect the long term viability of this precious resource Canada annually harvests less than 1% of our 347 million ha of forest land.

Canadian hardwood is recognized around  the world over for meeting and exceeding the industry’s strictest standards for sustainability and progressive management. Our forests are part of our heritage and a public good and our hardwood products are sought after by architects, designers and environmentally conscious consumers the

In collaboration with Indigenous communities, Canada protects the “significant environmental, social, cultural and spiritual benefits, as well as opportunities for sustainable economic development” for future generations.
